FineWithIceNine: You online?

FoxyLogic: Oh hey, it’s been awhile! J

FineWithIceNine: Hey. Did IMP ever confirm whether weres are at a higher risk?

FoxyLogic: Uh. If they did I’m not exactly sure they’d tell me. ^^;

FoxyLogic: Let me reach out to Marcelle, I’m still on good terms with her.

FineWithIceNine: Thanks

FoxyLogic: Yeah! No problem. How have you been?

FineWithIceNine: Fine

FoxyLogic: *finger guns* with Ice Nine? :P

…...

FineWithIceNine: Nice one

FoxyLogic: :P

FineWithIceNine: Sorry, I’m a little busy at the moment. Don’t really have time for an extended chat.

FoxyLogic: No I totally get it, Hikari and I were just about to go on a walk, you didn’t interrupt though! She felt tired so we didn’t go uh, no message from Marcelle though.

……….

Marcelle: This is Marcelle Smith speaking.

Alexis: “Hey Marcelle! It’s Alexis.”

Marcelle: “Oh my gosh! Alexis? I haven’t seen you in months? Well, I haven’t see half of my coworke- of anyone for ages. Well, outside of Facebook, but, you know, Facebook. Oh! Speaking of which, congratulations on the new boat, Ma’am!”

Alexis: “Thank you Marcelle. Yes, Hikari and I are quite ready for summer; although it’s still a few months too early. We’re hoping to take it out in the spring though.”

Marcelle: “Oh how wonderful”

Alexis: “Yes and you know, there’s no need to social distance on the water!”

Marcelle: “Ahahahahahahahaha”

Alexis: “So. How are the kids?”

Marcelle: “Wonderful, you know, all things considered I think they’ve really stuck it through this like champs. And I was expecting, oh gosh. I was expecting to be pulling my hair out by this time! I should’ve known though, they’re good kids.”

Alexis: “Mmm hmm. That’s true, that they are. I miss seeing Ginny around the office.”

Marcelle: “Ohhhhh. I’m sure she misses seeing you too. Or rather, I’m sure she misses getting free reign of my office while we were in meetings. Not really any meetings happening in the office anymore though!”

Alexis: “*chuckles* It’s all digital now?”

Marcelle: “Yup, it’s all over Zoom!”

Alexis: “Really, Zoom? In IMP?”

Marcelle: “I know! I never thought I’d see the day.”

Alexis: “I was sure you all were going to end up with some, ancient version of Skype for Business or something.”

Marcelle: Ahahahahahaha

Alexis: “What about Jenny?”

Marcelle: “She had her first shift this summer and she handled it like a champ. Followed exactly what we planned.”

Alexis: “Oh my gosh…”

Marcelle: “She looks just like her father!”

Alexis: “…He would have been very proud.”

Marcelle: “Thank you, that means the world.”

Alexis: “During a pandemic though. Gosh. That must not have been easy.”

Marcelle: “No, it really wasn’t. Which is why I was so glad that she followed what we had planned. The last thing I would have wanted is to have been chasing a new silver wolf around the neighborhood.”

Alexis: “Oh dear god…”

Marcelle: “Yup. So I just loaded her in the truck and dropped her off at her Uncle’s with a couple of home made lunches, a few snacks and a fishing pole.”

Alexis: “Of course you did. Marcelle, if there was a ‘mother of the year’s award, you’d win it for sure.”

Marcelle: “Ma’am! Stop with the flattery, I’m just doing what comes naturally. You and Hikari will end up the same way one day if you decide to become parents!”

Alexis: “Ha. I’m. Well now I’m the one being flattered.”

Marcelle: “Nope! Not going to accept that. You don’t 'outrank' me anymore so- Oh. Oh AlexisI’m. I’m sorry I shouldn’t have…”

Alexis: “It’s, fine, Marcelle.”

Marcelle: “No, it was a casual mistake I’m sorry. I’m just. I keep forgetting how much time has passed.”

Alexis: “Yeah…”

Marcelle: “I, hope this isn’t overstepping but, your workplace is so lucky to have you. You’re so incredible, Ma’am. How many times have you won employee of the month, hmm? First promotion yet? I’m sure you’ll be, head of the company in no time!”

Alexis: “That’s, thanks Marcelle.

Marcelle: “Of course Ma’am. You deserve it, after all.”

Alexis: “I-“

Marcelle: “You know I. I know I haven’t said this out loud but. I hoped. I hoped that. I had hoped that you would understand. I think. I think it’s. Really, I.”

Alexis: “Marcelle we don’t have to talk about this, it’s fine. I completely understand the position you were in-“

Marcelle: “No, No. It was wrong. I, I made the wrong decision.”

Alexis: “Marcie…”

Marcelle: “David…. David would have made a different decision. David would’ve. David would’ve…. He would’ve…. He would’ve stuck by you… He would’ve stuck by all of you…”

Alexis: “Marcie, that’s, you were doing, I don’t. I don’t want to dispute. He was your husband but; Marcie he wouldn’t blame you-“

Marcelle: “He would’ve found a different way.”

Marcelle: “It wasn’t right. What that, that, that mean, nasty woman did to you I. I. I can’t believe that I voted for her. I’m. I’m so sorry. David would’ve been. He would’ve found a different way.”

Marcelle: “I wish. I wish he was still here. Oh my god I wish he was still here. I. It’s been so hard without him. It’s been. It’s been so hard without him. Jenny. Jenny looks just like him. It’s so uncanny; Alexis. She looks just like him. Her russet fur, the way she runs. That first night, when she had her shift. I can just. I can just imagine her, out there on the lake. You know, her grandpa said. He said that she howled, just like her father did. That her howl; sounds just like her father.”

Alexis: “Marcie, I’m-“

Marcelle: “We lead. Such hard lives. I miss you. It’s…. It’s not the same without you, you know. Bowie is, he’s fine but. More than fine. He’s, he’s the right person for the right job but. No, I shouldn’t. I really can’t say more. I just. You know what it’s like. You know? None of them, none of the new people understand they don’t. They don’t get what it was like, what we built. What we rebuilt. All the things we did, all the stunts we pulled. The isolation; the sheer isolation of it. Not being, able to tell our loved ones. Not being able to, list what we did. And now it’s just. Out there. In the open. And everyone knows, everyone knows what we built and they judge us for it but they don’t. God do they judge us for it. They all judge us for it. But I’m proud, I’m proud of it I just; I just…

I hate how it ended.

I’m sorry.”

Alexis: “Marcie. I. I need your help.”

Marcelle: “Anything, anything I can do. You’ve done so much for me, you and Hikari. And you. You. I know you tried your best. With. I know. I know that David. He called you a friend; you know that, right? He thought. He thought the world of you. Even. Even when. Well. He would’ve.”

Alexis: “Marcie. Thank you. I. I have regrets too. But. I need, I can help. There are a lot of isolated folks right now. And I, I could use some-“

Marcelle: “Yes, anything.”

Alexis: “Are, werewolves and other were creatures are we, they, at higher risk? From COVID? Has anyone figured that out yet?”

….

…..

Marcelle: “I can’t, you know I can’t tell you that.”

Alexis: “Oh. I. Know you can’t go into the details, I don’t need to know those I-“

Marcelle: “Goddamnit, you know I can’t tell you that.”

Alexis: “I just, that’s fine. I was just wondering if.”

Marcelle: “You… Is this why you reached out, really? I. I thought it was, about Jenny but. This is why you really reached out, isn’t it? You didn’t reach out to catch up; you reached out because you needed me.”

Alexis: “Marcelle. Please, let me explain.”

Marcelle:No! You don’t you don’t get to explain, Alexis. This job. This position. You know how much this means to me. You know how much I have left outside of this. You know how hard it is for people, like us, to get jobs these days you fucking know how the world sees us.”

Alexis: “Marcie-“

Marcelle: “You’re, a civilian. I’m a civilian. I. No. I can’t. I cannot”

Alexis: “Marcie please, even just; I’m not asking for this information I know that folks inside are getti-“

Marcelle: “I suppose you heard that from Christophsis? No. He’s wrong. The answer is no. He’s trying to make you feel better but it’s not true. No. I can’t, help you.”

Alexis: “-“

Marcelle: “I can’t help you, Ma’am. I can’t. There’s nothing I can do for you. You’ll have to wait for the public release of data, like anybody else. Like all the rest. As a, as a Kitsune, you should Receive the information that is pertinent to you when it is released by; the health authorities. I would recommend contacting your primary care physician, or visiting w-w-w.d-o-h.w-a.g-o-v-/-Emergencies/COVID19.”

Alexis: “Marcelle-“

Marcelle: “Goodbye, Ma’am. And please, give Hikari my regards.”

“Hey, Anastasia. It’s, it’s Alexis. So, I just, saw that you, saw my texts and didn’t, respond. So I figured, maybe, you were in the middle of something I; uh; you know I’ve got good news and bad news and the bad news is that I don’t really know much more than you but- the good news is that, you know, for Kitsune the information is going to be made available through standard health channels, uh, civilian health channels so; maybe that will be, maybe that will be quicker but. I’ll try to, I’ll try to keep at it. Turn over a few stones. It was, really great to talk to you this afternoon and. I hope that. I’m able to uh, talk to you soon. Bye!”
